I still use Acid Pro, for samples if I'm making a beat. The only downside is that v3 is quite basic, with no VST, automation, MIDI so it could be used as a basic sampler i guess

So it would seem with the current fashion for LoFi and 12-bit samplers etc, that Sonic Foundry did something good in the engine in those early versions (v1, v2, v3, ) that was superceeded by something 'less' good that Sony later did. I definetly found v3.0 fatter and tighter like an MPC i guess, so i am wondering with the Sony take over at v4, and sample engines getting better, that the sound did change. Its funny that you say the same thing, with v4.0 not sounding the same, and thin! and that v3.0 sounded crunchier, especially with pitching, like it was almost hardware and dare I use the 'A' word? (analog) Now is v3 just making it louder? (I dont see how) or is there something else going on? I know a few have mentioned it but side by side render in v3 and v6 and (hopefully that screenshot link works?) you can see the differences with exactly the same project, settings, volumes, tracks. I blamed it on having a new computer at the time, but I think it was just a difference in the program.ĪCID 4.0 in comparison just sounding more lifeless and thin.Exactly this! I remember very clearly moving from Sonic Foundry ACID 3.0 to Sony ACID 4.0, and noticing all my old songs didn't sound the same any more. I loved the way it lets you zoom in on samples to chop them up, or play with the pitch. I would probably still use it to create some good samples to load into my MPC.
ACID PRO 4.0 SOFTWARE WINDOWS
This actually makes me want to track down an old copy of ACID 3.0, and see if it will run on Windows 10. From what I remember, ACID 3.0 sounded like a good old 90s sampler from Ensoniq or EMU.ĪCID 4.0 in comparison just sounding more lifeless and thin. When you pitched stuff up or especially down, it sounded better. I blamed it on having a new computer at the time, but I think it was just a difference in the program.ĪCID 3.0 seemed to give a more saturated, warm characteristic to everything. remember very clearly moving from Sonic Foundry ACID 3.0 to Sony ACID 4.0, and noticing all my old songs didn't sound the same any more.

Hoping my screenshot on Facebook link would work to show you what i mean? I always thought v3.0 sounded different to my ears. Is Acid Pro 3.0 indeed adding something (other than volume?) to its internal renders? hmmmm. I did the exact same identical renders of the SAME Project loaded into both, SAME tracks, at SAME volumes with no plug ins, and look at the differences? Some have always said that SF versions were warmer, and 'phatter' for some reason. I use Sonic Foundry Acid Pro 3.0, and Sony Acid Pro 6.0. Old post I know, but dug out Acid again, and found something interesting as mentioned in this thread. I definitely found v3.0 very stable on W10, as it was a small solid footprint, and did looping very well (but not much else) - hence the export to Logic Pro to add fx, and better EQ etc The problem you may have is that i don't think Rewire was implemented til a lot later so it couldn't be synced to anything. (Don't get me wrong I still use v7 and sometimes v8 but it's not my main DAW even though I wish I could say it was). This is exactly how I use Acid Pro, in the last few months, going back to V3.0 but hoping to mixdown in Logic Pro (with exported audio stems) and using the latest plug-ins and VST's.Īcid Pro 3.0 didn't allow any VST plug ins, so its very basic, but stable. I wouldn't need all the VSTi/VSTFx support obviously. I'm willing to see if using it as some kind of "Drum / Loop" slicing tool, rewired to Bitwig. Just to use the choppping / cut and slice and drag feature of its sequencer. I'm looking for the most stable Acid Pro version ever.
